TEN by Fotolia Season 2

I think our environment and personal experiences directly influence our life, as artists or designers. My work is probably more Brazilian than I am. I can be very calm and serious, while it’s happy all the time,” says the now L.A. resident. According to the artist, his creation is a “graphic explosion evoking the urban and youth culture, a kind of energetic rebellion, with bright colors and complex shapes.

More than just a learning tool for other designers, every artist shares his or her personal style and influences, how they came to become the artists they are today, along with the techniques they used to create the PSD through short videos. These videos are released on TEN Collection’s Facebook page and on Twitter (@Fotolia), or view them directly on Fotolia’s TEN Collection channel.

You! Be Informed! #0042 – Adobe Max, the Making of ‘Born & Raised’, and Saving Sally

Here’s another edition of You! Be Informed!

This week’s edition of You! Be Informed! will be a little bit of everything creative as we’ve compiled different projects that range from print media to digital media and animation.

Max: The Adobe Creative Conference

If you’re a creative looking for inspiration or ways on how you can further expand your creative process, you don’t have to look any further. Adobe will hold their annual creative conference dubbed Adobe Max on May 4 – 8, 2013 in Los Angeles, CA. The event will be attended by over 5000 creative individuals that are professionals in their own right.

The Making of John Mayer’s ‘Born & Raised’ Album

We’ve featured David Smith’s work on John Mayer’s Born & Raised Album before and we were amazed by the detail and level of his work. His works spans both the traditional and modern methods of creating graphic design. Recently, Freelance film-maker Danny Cooke posted a video featuring the process and how John Mayer found David Smith’s work and instantly fell in love with it.

Check out the finer details of David Smith’s work on the Born & Raised album in Danny Cooke’s documentary – The Making of John Mayer’s ‘Born & Raised’ Album:

A Pictorial History of London Tube

London’s underground tube has been an influential icon in graphic design. The logo of London’s tube has been parodied, used, and sold worldwide – from shirts to posters, and other accessories. But in their 150th anniversary, Transport for London made an exhibition of their archived posters.

Over 150 posters where exhibited by the London Transport Museum. Check out some of the vintage and modern designs at Brain Pickings.

Save Saving Sally

Saving sally is an independent feature film produced by creative-extraordinaire Avid Liongoren. Why are we trying to save Saving Sally? Well, it’s been in production for almost seven hundred years, and the people behind the idea and the film are getting broke and they need some extra muscle. So here comes the internet to the rescue (well, hopefully). If you’ve got time check out the trailers on their website, here’s one for you guys:

Creative Advertising Ideas – 002

Last week we have featured some amazing creative advertising ideas like UTEC’s water-generating billboard and our personal favorite is the awesome arcade game named Last Barfighter for Big Boss Brewing Company. For this week we are featuring some interesting advertisement like the making of crazy contraption just to take out the cream of a cookie.

1. Qualcomm

Qualcomm takes away the pain in waiting at bus stops with a crazy advertising stunt using simple poster, a URL and an array of quirky and cool ways of transportation. What is nice about the stunt is that it enforces the idea of being mobile and above all the idea of kicking the boredom away by just using the mobile phone.

2. Oreo

Some people like cream while some people don’t and that is what Oreo’s Cream vs. Cookie campaign is all about. This new TV spot features David Neevel a physicist and a copywriter who doesn’t likes the Oreo cream and he decided to build himself a machine that not only separates the Oreo cookie but also gets rid of the cream.

3.  Game of Thrones

With season 3 being a month away HBO’s Game of Thrones invaded the Monday edition of the New York Times to remind everyone that the award winning show is going to be back on air. The amazing reminder comes in a bunch of fake articles and extremely convincing shadow of a dragon. Looks like Daenaerys is going to finally have a good season.

If you haven’t seen the latest trailer yet better check it out now.

4. Audi

Renowned car maker Audi showed that their latest creation is something that you’d wish to drive someday and they did that with a paintball duel. The duel is comprised of the latest Audi RS 4 Avant  with a mounted paintball gun and driven by UK’s top stuntmen.

You! Be Informed! #0041 – The Alva Fellowships, TED x Gettyimages, and the Search Engine with Good Taste

The Search Engine with Good Taste

We’ve seen different kinds of search engines on the internet the past decade – but all of them have not served graphic designers whole-heartedly. Google may have improved its image search functions, but it’s not as we’d want it to.

But fret no more my dear friends, there’s a search engine now for graphic designers and for those are looking for quality and beautiful imagery – Niice.co.

Niice.co is a search engine for designers and those who are looking for inspiration. Its current primary image sources are dribble and behance, and are working to get more on board.

TED x Gettyimages

Last week, Getty Images, the world’s leading creators and distributors of multimedia product announced its partnership with TED, the non-profit organization dedicated to empower the world’s most inspired thinkers.

Getty Images, as part of the partnership, will be providing complimentary access to its multimedia gallery – which spans photos, music, and videos to TED2013 and TEDGLobal 2013. The aim of the partnership is to provide creative and inspiration visuals to the creative and inspired thinkers that are attending the TED conferences.

The Alva Emerging Fellowship Program

Behance’s Alva Award has now a new program under its wing – The Alva Emerging Fellowship program. The program aims to provide a seed grant to young creators and inventors that have remarkable potential to innovate and create new products.

Fan Art Friday – Fictional Logos Compiled by FAUXGO

Stories are driven by different elements – from the characters’ actions to McGuffins whose true purpose are never revealed on-screen or within the story. But apart from the active elements that make up the story, there are also other notable things that make a story interesting, one of these are the fictional companies that either directly or indirectly affects the story.

We probably won’t be able to trace back when or what was the first fictional company that was ever created for a film or video game. But what we can do now is document them, just like what FAUXGO is doing right now.
FAUXGO, a portmanteau of the french word “faux” and “logo”, was initiated by Tymn Armstrong to recreate fictional logos of companies, groups, and other entities that can be seen in television, film, video games, and has crept its way into today’s popular culture.

Here’re a few of what Tymn has recreated:

logo inspiration 01

N7 — a fictional special forces from the Mass Effect video game series.

logo inspiration 2

Shinra Electric Company – a company prominently featured in Squaresoft’s Final Fantasy VII series.

logo inspiration 3

The Dharma Initiative – a fictional research project that primarily deals with fringe science, it was prominently appearing in the Lost TV series.

logo inspiration 4

Paper Street Soap Company – a company featured in the film Fight Club, it was introduced in the film as being owned by Tyler Durden.

Umbrella Corp. – Featured primarily in the video game series Resident Evil.

logo inspiration 6

FOXHOUND – a fictional elite black ops unit of the United States Army that appeared in the Metal Gear video game franchise.

logo inspiration 7

Momcorp – a company prominently featured in the animated TV series Futurama.

These fictional groups and companies have provided an important backstory in their own respective franchises. Although sometimes barely seen throughout the whole run of the TV show or video game, these logos are so well-designed that it can easily be recognizable to someone who has encountered it either on TV or video game.

Check out FAUXGO for more fictional logo inspiration.
