You! Be Inspired! — The Amazing Illustration of Jon Reinfurt

The success of a story or article doesn’t just only rely on how well it is written. At times, an equally amazing illustration is also much needed to pique the interest of the readers and reel them in. Other than reeling the readers in, an illustration also contributes in helping the viewer to further visualize or at least get the gist of what the article is about.

Today we are going to take a look at the amazing illustration of Jon Reinfurt. A graduate of illustration at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia and a recipient of numerous illustration awards and recognition from known publications such as Society of Illustrators, Communication Arts and American Illustrators. His inspiring illustrations and paintings also graced a number of publications and galleries around the country. His clients range from publications such as Reader’s Digest Asia, Runner’s World, READ Magazine and the Wall Street Journal. Apart from creating beautiful illustrations, Jon also teaches an illustration course at UArts.

Web Design Wednesday – 3 CSS3 Tutorials You can Use to Improve Your Website

There are different ways we can design and build a website. We’ve featured Parallax a couple of weeks ago, which was a great way of creating single page websites or even build an online portfolio. This time, we’ll be featuring three CSS3 tutorials ideal for improving or building an amazing website design.

Circle Navigation Effect

The circle navigation effect provides a nice touch to your website’s hover buttons and image navigation. It’s an ideal feature that you can place on a photographer’s or graphic designer’s portfolio.

Draggable Image Boxes Grid

Another ideal feature that you can use on an image heavy website, the Draggable Image Boxes Grid tutorial allows you to create a web page that doesn’t need scroll bars for you to navigate along. Instead it allows you to use your mouse’s left click button and just drag away and navigate through your page.

Blur Menu

The blur menu tutorial allows you to add some character to your webpage – may it be an image heavy web page or a corporate website. The tutorial will provide you with different styles and applications for the blur menu effect.

Tutorial Tuesdays – How to Stop Procrastinating

Procrastination is a forever part of life. Like it or not it is here to stay with us whether you are a designer or not. If one thing, almost everybody is procrastinating in one way or another. Ironic as it may seem reading this post only shows that you are searching for ways on how to stop procrastinating while procrastinating.

In our efforts to find out ways on how to stop procrastinating, let us review some interesting facts about procrastination to further deepen our understanding about it. One fact is that there are about 20% of Americans who are admittedly chronic procrastinators. Other than that procrastinators are often the best liars especially with themselves. They often lie about the importance of task deeming it as unimportant and easy which makes it not too difficult for them to reason out why they are just going to do it the next day. Last interesting fact is that there are three types of procrastinators according to Joseph Ferrari Ph. D., one is the Arousal type, these are the type who get the rush when cramming on a task. Second are the Avoiders, these are the types who fear failing and would rather excuse themselves in doing a task. Lastly is the Decisional, they are the ones who cannot decide which task should be tackled first or how how will they tackle the task at hand.

In this edition of Tutorial Tuesdays, we will move a bit from the usual tutorial rundown to showcase to you guys some amazing and insightful videos that can help you combat procrastination and turn it around with these amazing videos.

Vik Nithy’s is one person that you should watch, apart from being able to start 3 companies before reaching the age of 21. In such a young age it is very interesting to hear what he has to say on why do people procrastinate and how to tackle procrastination.

AsapSCIENCE explains to us what procrastination and the science behind it. They also introduced the idea of using the Pomodoro technique in order to win over procrastination.

Funny and very thoughtful, Wellcast has made a tongue and cheek approach in procrastination. The video also talked about 3 simple but effective ways on how one can beat procrastination.

In this lengthy but thoughtful video, Stefan Molyneux offers some very interesting points on why do we procrastinate and tips on how to stop procrastinating.

Max: The Adobe Creative Conference

If you’re a creative looking for inspiration or ways on how you can further expand your creative process, you don’t have to look any further. Adobe will hold their annual creative conference dubbed Adobe Max on May 4 – 8, 2013 in Los Angeles, CA. The event will be attended by over 5000 creative individuals that are professionals in their own right.

The Making of John Mayer’s ‘Born & Raised’ Album

We’ve featured David Smith’s work on John Mayer’s Born & Raised Album before and we were amazed by the detail and level of his work. His works spans both the traditional and modern methods of creating graphic design. Recently, Freelance film-maker Danny Cooke posted a video featuring the process and how John Mayer found David Smith’s work and instantly fell in love with it.

A Pictorial History of London Tube

London’s underground tube has been an influential icon in graphic design. The logo of London’s tube has been parodied, used, and sold worldwide – from shirts to posters, and other accessories. But in their 150^th anniversary, Transport for London made an exhibition of their archived posters.

Over 150 posters where exhibited by the London Transport Museum. Check out some of the vintage and modern designs at Brain Pickings.

Save Saving Sally

Saving sally is an independent feature film produced by creative-extraordinaire Avid Liongoren. Why are we trying to save Saving Sally? Well, it’s been in production for almost seven hundred years, and the people behind the idea and the film are getting broke and they need some extra muscle. Surreal Saturday – Surreal and Cryptic works of Joao Ruas

The intricate lines, beautiful play of colors, surreal and cryptic imagery are what best describes the work of Sao Paulo visual artist Joao Ruas. Fans of DC’s Vertigo Fables would easily remember his work since Joao was commissioned to do stunning covers. Apart from Fables Joao’s stunning work is also showcased in art shows and in top publications like Wired, Sunday Times and Playboy. He has also successfully published his very own art book entitled: “Yore”.

The enigmatic imagery of his works is a must see for everyone and that is why we are featuring Joao Ruas’ ethereal work on this edition of Surreal Saturday.

Creative Advertising Ideas of the Week – 001

Advertising is one of the many reasons why graphic design is so prevalent today and of course in the coming future. Advertisements generally should be creative, catchy, witty and above all entertaining while its trying to persuade the viewer to try out or to stick with a certain brand. There are tons of advertisements flooding us from a day to day basis but there are only a few of these amazing creative advertising ideas that hits the right spot of entertaining and persuading its audience.

Since of the majority of the most creative pieces and minds are in the field of advertising we here at You the Designer have decided to bring you guys awesome creative advertisements every week to quench your thirst for inspiration.

1. Fanta: The Tastable Print Ad

Fanta is one of the biggest brands that is created by Coca-Cola teamed up with OgilvyOne Middle East to launch a tastable print ad, while not the first at the very least Fanta’s ad tastes pleasant unlike the Edible Ad from Volkswagen. We are eager to have our taste buds try this

2. Amnesty International: Censored Tweets

While many of us complain about the rise of mundane posts in Facebook and Twitter there are countries who block and silence people who are trying to share and express themselves online. This simple and interactive ad from Amnesty International with DM9Rio created a campaign wherein users are able to tweet black bars of censorship in their Twitter timeline.

3. Microsoft Outlook: Get Going

Windows 8 surely looks amazing but if you haven’t seen the new and improved Outlook then prepare to be amazed! The ad is telling its viewers to get going and do amazing things. The TV spot showcases some of the most stunning features the Outlook.com can do unlike other email services. If Macklemore’s Can’t Hold Us doesn’t get you guys pumped then the hovercraft probably will.

4. Emirates: Share a Smile

Everyone has a nightmare story travelling by flight but if there is one airline that many would vouch for its great service its Emirates. Just a few days ago Emirates lunched the campaign Share a Smile wherein their cabin crew members shares to their viewers different light-hearted sayings from around the world in its native language followed by a short explanation. These 14 simple, quirky and funny videos are sure to make people smile and lighten up their day.

5. Big Boss Brewing Company: The Last Barfighter

You might never look at beer dispensers the same way again. Big Boss Brewing Company commissioned the McKinney ad agency to create this one of a kind beer dispenser experience. Gamers and beer fans a like are pitted against each other in a classic ala-Street Fighter arcade game entitled: “The Last Barfighter” wherein the winner of the three rounds doesn’t just get the bragging rights but also a cup full of Big Boss Beer. Now that is what we call amazing!

6. UTEC: Water-Generating Billboard

Universidad Tecnologica del Centro or UTEC along with Mayo Publicidad DraftFCB showcased its amazing engineering prowess to attract applicants for the upcoming school-year by making a Water-Generating Billboard. Apart from the genius way of creating a billboard, UTEC has also done a exceptional job of inspiring future students by showing that with engineering they will be able to change the lives of many people and make it better.
