We’re just a few days before December and the Christmas spirit is already lingering into our doorsteps. For most part of the world, this means that it’s time to bring out Santa and the elves, the garlands, the Christmas lights and of course the celebration of Christmas wouldn’t be complete if we don’t see a Christmas tree (whether indoors or outdoors) around.
The Christmas tree is actually just a recent trend, with its origin dating back to the second half of the 19th century; it has slowly become a staple item when it comes to decorations in holiday celebrations all over the world.
Christmas trees are either made from polyvinyl chloride (PVC) or are actual trees, usually an evergreen conifer such as pine or fir. During the old days, they were traditionally decorated with edibles such as apples, nuts or dates and illuminated with candles. But nowadays, Christmas trees are decorated by a slew of holiday ornaments from garland, tinsel, candy canes and shiny metallic or glass balls.
An angel can be placed on top of the tree to represent the host of angels that were present during the nativity. Similarly, a star can be placed on top of the Nativity tree to represent the Star of Bethlehem. And with the dawn of electrification, the candles that were used in the old days are now replaced by Christmas lights.
For most people, the common look and design of Christmas trees are already enough to imbibe a place with the holiday feel. But of course, designers and artists have a different take on this matter. It’s not just enough for a Christmas tree to be ordinary. It has to be different, cool and unique. So in today’s You!
