Add Your Face to Movie Poster

Add Your Face to Movie Poster

You can find a lot of tutorials how to paste another face to the picture. Here I’m planning to show you my own way how to do this step by step and explain how to process every small detail in this design. You will look as a real real star!

Let’s start by finding the poster where you wanna be main actress or actor. For example, I will use Twilight movie poster (download here) or also feel free to use another posters from another movies what you like. Ok, then I need to put our picture on it. As for me, I just decided to use a picture of serious young lady (download here). Open up your photo and use Polygonal Lasso Tool to select face on the picture.

Add Your Face to Movie Poster

Press Ctrl+C to copy selected area, then open up canvas with movie poster and paste (Press Ctrl+D) there copied part of image from you picture. If you need to rotate your face to find suitable position and size for it, just use Ctrl+T for free transform.

Add Your Face to Movie Poster

After that we can move to next step. For now use the Eraser Tool and a soft round brush about 50 px to remove hard edges from face fragment layer.

Add Your Face to Movie Poster

As we can see, skin color of face fragment is bit different from original color face on the movie poster. How we can resolve this problem? Very easy! Just apply Image > Adjustments > Color Balance with similar presets to these:

Add Your Face to Movie Poster

Now the result looks better as before. We got much correct saturation for face skin.

Add Your Face to Movie Poster

Ok, now use Dodge Tool (Brush: 30px, Range: Midtones, Exposure: 30%) to make some parts of face a little bit lighter.

Add Your Face to Movie Poster

See the difference now:

Add Your Face to Movie Poster

After that we have to make some burn work with the opposite side of the face. Select the Burn Tool (Brush: 25px, Range: Midtones, Exposure: 40%) and process eyes area with it.

Add Your Face to Movie Poster

Move to the next step. Now we need to add global shadow to the left part of face. Create new layer, after that use the Polygonal Lasso Tool to create selection and fill it with color of #1d0d08 on the new layer.

Add Your Face to Movie Poster

Remove selection with Ctrl+D and Apply Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur to blur current layer content about 3,8 pixels and change layer mode to Multiply.

Add Your Face to Movie Poster

Now will be the hardest part of doing this tutorial. We need to clear shadow layer with Eraser Tool and soft round brush with different sizes to get realistic view of shadow presence. I think, for the beginners in Photoshop it will be a little bit harder to get realistic result, but you have to try anyway. I got something like this:

Add Your Face to Movie Poster

We are finished with our tutorial! Now you’re looking like a great actress on that movie poster!

What to Wear: How to Dress for Engagement Pictures

What to Wear {Part 6: Couples}

As a photographer, it can help your customers when you direct them on what to wear. The next number of weeks, guest writer Kelsey Anderson will be providing information to help you coach your customers on what to wear.

When booking a portrait session I think it is almost always a given that the client is going to ask for suggestions on what to wear. I struggled with this question when I was first starting out. My clients would come dressed in matching outfits or in the same color head to toe. These clothing choices do not make for the most visually appealing image, right?

I knew that I had to change my clients way of thinking when it came to choosing outfits for their portraits. I personally believe that is part of my job to help style a session. This gives my clients another reason to hiring me over going to a chain portrait studio. I always tell them to choose items with good color, texture (ie, knits, ruffles, denim) and accessories. I tell them to think coordinating not matching. I even go as far as offering to come to their homes and dig through their closet with them or tell them to bring a trunk full of options and we can put together outfits on location.

Couples/Engagement sessions are so much fun to style! I always suggest my couples to bring a few different outfits, so we can change up the look mid session. I like my clients to dress up like they are going out on the town for the night. Here in the desert we have a lot of brown landscape so throwing a couple dressed to the nines in color against that backdrop is fabulous! Again I mention think coordinating not matching. You want their outfits to flow well with one another but not match from head to toe.

Here are a few items I love for engagement and couples sessions. I actually post a What to Wear Guide on my blog weekly! I like to keep ideas of clothing choices fresh in my clients head and don’t want to have to have them dig through my blog to find them.

What type of advertising for photographers works best for the money?

What type of advertising works best for the money? Direct mail? Newspaper? Etc.
by Sarah Petty

Small business owners always ask me “where should I be marketing,” but I know they are specifically meaning they want to know where and how to advertise. The thing that makes small business fun is that there is no easy answer. What happens is that if there is an easy idea (i.e. Facebook), everyone does it and then it doesn’t really work anymore. Is anyone sick of all of the “specials” on Facebook? Seems like every day I see tons of people offering quick discounts trying to attract new customers. Due to the amount of media segmentation and choices, it is increasingly difficult to obtain desired results by using traditional advertising like television, radio and newspaper.

In my opinion, the key to winning in small business is to create a group of people who love what you do, create products to keep them coming back and create loyalty to keep them referring their friends. I am sure that each one of you has a client who thinks you are the greatest thing since sliced bread. To that person, you are a brand and you are more than likely, worth more than your competitors. The key is to foster those relationships one person at a time. The time it takes to build a database of 500-700 clients and prospects is up to you. You can get involved in your community by speaking to local groups and by donating gift certificates to every school auction in town. You can co-market with other local small business owners who share your target market and have an event or create a mutually beneficial sales promotion. This is a great way to cross-pollinate your lists and grow your database. Your database is your most valuable asset so make sure you treat everyone like you would a good friend.

Create Colorful Composition in Photoshop

For some time, we hadn't a drawing tutorial, so here is new one. In this Photoshop drawing tutorial we will create a beautiful and colorful composition with circles. In this tutorial we will mostly use standard features of Photoshop, but I think you will learn some extra tricks using basic Photoshop tools.  Mostly, we will use Layers styles and Pen tool. Just want to add that the technique you will learn in tutorial you'll be able to apply not only in creating balls, but for example the Christmas ornaments or any other abstract decors.  So, let's start tutorial.

Stocks Used:

Final Image Preview

typo magic Create Colorful Composition in Photoshop

1.Step - Background and Circle

Create a new document 1000px * 650px.

The main figures in our work will be circles and curves. We begin with the creation circles and circles detailing. Using the tool Ellipse Tool (U) and create an ideal flat large circle.

2 Create Colorful Composition in Photoshop

2.Step - Blending Options of cirlce

Use the Blending Options to set the style of our figure.

3 Create Colorful Composition in Photoshop

Custom styles like this:

4 Create Colorful Composition in Photoshop

5 Create Colorful Composition in Photoshop

Being in the section Gradient Overlay move the cursor with a gradient in the upper left edge. This will make our figure more beautifully.

6 Create Colorful Composition in Photoshop

And next add Bevel and Emboss and Inner Glow parameters:

7 Create Colorful Composition in Photoshop

8 Create Colorful Composition in Photoshop

Your result should be like this:

9 Create Colorful Composition in Photoshop

At this stage we have finished setting the style!

3.Step - Processing of circle

Next, we will work with Pen Tool (P). This is very important part of our work.

So, select the Pen Tool, create a new layer above the others and put the icon on the Paths and adjust the point this way:

10 Create Colorful Composition in Photoshop

Click the right button on the selection and press the Make selection.

11 Create Colorful Composition in Photoshop

Fill selection with white color.

12 Create Colorful Composition in Photoshop

Using the Eraser Tool, for erase sides as shown below. Use a soft brush at 50% opacity and set the opacity of this layer to 35%.

13 Create Colorful Composition in Photoshop

In the same way we make a new section below, similarly:  (Note I used only 2 points)

After that, fill our section with white.

14 Create Colorful Composition in Photoshop

For better quality we'll erase some parts, like this:  (again we use for this soft eraser of 50% opacity.)

15 Create Colorful Composition in Photoshop

Create another layer above others and create Pen Tool new section in the middle of our circle. Try to draw it symmetrically other sections. And fill this section in black.

16 Create Colorful Composition in Photoshop

For a better effect edit parameters of layers like this:

17 Create Colorful Composition in Photoshop

*For better quality we'll erase some parts on middle layer, like this:  (again we use for this soft eraser of 50% opacity.)

18 Create Colorful Composition in Photoshop

Create a new layer and add the final part, like this:

19 Create Colorful Composition in Photoshop

20 Create Colorful Composition in Photoshop

21 Create Colorful Composition in Photoshop

Now select all layers of circle and press Ctrl + E to making a single layer.

Now our circle is fully prepared and we can proceed to the next step!

4.Step - Circles and type

So, now we have only 1 layer, our circle. Now we need to add text and multiply circles. It is very easy, just make a duplicate layer with the circle and change his hue. Start by creating a text.

By the way you can experiment with colors.

For the font I used “Microsoft Sans Serif” and I wrote the word “TYPO” (size: 120pt.). Also I made a bit smaller our circle to 72%.

22 Create Colorful Composition in Photoshop

Next, make a duplicate layer of our circle and make circle to 72% of its size, press Ctrl + T to do that. Also change the color as shown below:

23 Create Colorful Composition in Photoshop

24 Create Colorful Composition in Photoshop

Next, experiment, like this:

25 Create Colorful Composition in Photoshop

26 Create Colorful Composition in Photoshop

27 Create Colorful Composition in Photoshop

28 Create Colorful Composition in Photoshop

For the blurring of circle I used the filter Gaussian Blur on 2.2 pixels:

29 Create Colorful Composition in Photoshop

At the same:

30 Create Colorful Composition in Photoshop

Now just add a little text "Magic" (Microsoft Sans Serif font / 40pt.)

31 Create Colorful Composition in Photoshop

5.Step - Lines

So now time for beautiful lines and a some little circles.

Create a new layer, above the others and select the Pen Tool (icon on paths). To make a beautiful lines you need minimal skills of Pen tool and a little of imagination. So start drawing the first line!

32 Create Colorful Composition in Photoshop

To make a full line pre-adjust the brush like:

33 Create Colorful Composition in Photoshop

And click on the Stroke Path and next like:

34 Create Colorful Composition in Photoshop

35 Create Colorful Composition in Photoshop

So, now we have:

36 Create Colorful Composition in Photoshop

Rename this layer to "Line 1"

In the same way, make 4 more lines beside with others lines.  Important: make a new line on a new layer! As a result, you should get like:

37 Create Colorful Composition in Photoshop

38 Create Colorful Composition in Photoshop

Now, the important part:  you need to configure the style of each lines. Simply set the style for one line, then simply change the color for the other, for example, style for the layer “Line 1”:

39 Create Colorful Composition in Photoshop

And we got result like this:

40 Create Colorful Composition in Photoshop

In the same way make the same styles for the remaining lines simply by changing the color.

Result:

41 Create Colorful Composition in Photoshop

Next, merge all layers (5 layers) with lines (select layers and press Ctrl + E).

Select Eraser and erase unnecessary parts:

42 Create Colorful Composition in Photoshop

I think now this lines looks nice.

43 Create Colorful Composition in Photoshop

I also added a few small circles near the lines.

44 Create Colorful Composition in Photoshop

6.Step - Finishing

Now is the time to decorate the work by leaves. To do this, I took a picture from Sxc.

45 Create Colorful Composition in Photoshop

To separate the leaves from the background I used the following steps:

Click on the Select -> Color Range.  Click on a white color on the background (fuzziness = 165)  -> Delete selection.  For the better quality click on the Layer -> Matting -> Defringe (1 px).

46 Create Colorful Composition in Photoshop

47 Create Colorful Composition in Photoshop

48 Create Colorful Composition in Photoshop

You should get:

49 Create Colorful Composition in Photoshop

Now just drag it on our work, as you like (under the layers of circles and lines), I have cloned layer with leaves 3 times and changed their rotate. You should get like that:

50 Create Colorful Composition in Photoshop

So, we are almost finished! Well, let's make a nice background! First you need to assign a background-layer style.

51 Create Colorful Composition in Photoshop

52 Create Colorful Composition in Photoshop

Result:

53 Create Colorful Composition in Photoshop

Take this photo from Sxc.

54 Create Colorful Composition in Photoshop

Place it above the layer with the background and set the blend mode Lighter Color. As result we have:

55 Create Colorful Composition in Photoshop

Select Brush and draw near our abstract such fill. Color of fill - 03e1de.

56 Create Colorful Composition in Photoshop

Then apply the filter Blur -> Gaussian Blur (48 pixels). And set the opacity to 50%. As result we have:

57 Create Colorful Composition in Photoshop

Next, create new layer above others: Layer -> New Adjustment Layer -> Levels:

58 Create Colorful Composition in Photoshop

And finally, our work is done! I add some little details and we can see result:

Final Result: Abstract composition

Designing Gear Wheel in Photoshop

Are you hungry for new tutorials how to create objects in Photoshop? Ok, I have one interesting tutorial for you.

Ok, let’s start! Create a new document sized 500×500 pixels. Drag a linear gradient with colors of #eaf8fb and #d0dee1 as shown on a picture below. It will be background for putting gear wheel on it.

After that start with creating gear wheel. Select Shape Tool and choose on of standard Photoshop shapes

Designing Gear Wheel in Photoshop

Designing Gear Wheel in Photoshop

and draw out it in the middle of our canvas with white color.

Designing Gear Wheel in Photoshop

Then reduce height about 60% for this shape and rasterize it with Layer > Rasterize > Shape:

Designing Gear Wheel in Photoshop

Load selection of shape with Select > Load Selection and fill it with grey to transparent gradient on the same layer (use color of #6d848c).

Designing Gear Wheel in Photoshop

Remove selection with Ctrl+D. Now, we should add lower base and process lateral surface texture. Duplicate current layer with Ctrl+J and move lower layer 20 pixels down.

Designing Gear Wheel in Photoshop

Then use the Polygonal Lasso Tool to connect the top edges and bottom edges of the gears with selection and fill it with whatever color you want.

Designing Gear Wheel in Photoshop

After that deselect chosen area with Ctrl+D and apply Color Overlay (link to 08) layer style for current layer.

Designing Gear Wheel in Photoshop

Designing Gear Wheel in Photoshop

Then create layer under and merge it with previous to get all effects in one layer. Ok, now we need to add glares and shadows to lateral surface to show metallic sheen effect on it. Use Polygonal Lasso Tool again and select some area between two nearest lugs of gear wheel.

Designing Gear Wheel in Photoshop

Then use Burn Tool (Brush: 15 px, Range: Shadows, Exposure: 50%) to add shadow in between two lags.

Designing Gear Wheel in Photoshop

After that reduce brush size to 5 pixels and add dark shadow line in deepest part to increase metal texture reflection.

Designing Gear Wheel in Photoshop

Change Burn Tool to Dodge Tool (Brush: 15 px, Range: Midtones, Exposure: 70%) and add a few glares from the left and right sides:

Designing Gear Wheel in Photoshop

Remove selection with Ctrl+D. Add the same affect to each visible area between each lug.

Designing Gear Wheel in Photoshop

Ok, we are done with lateral area surface. Move to the next step. Go to the upper part of gear wheel and bring some glare there also. For this effect use the Polygonal Lasso Tool again, create the same selection which you can see on the picture below and feel it with white color on the new layer.

Designing Gear Wheel in Photoshop

Remove selection with Ctrl+D and apply Filter > Blur > Radial Blur with similar settings to these:

Designing Gear Wheel in Photoshop

Your result should be the same as mine:

Designing Gear Wheel in Photoshop

Then apply Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur with next presets:

Designing Gear Wheel in Photoshop

We received picture like so:

Designing Gear Wheel in Photoshop

Now, press Ctrl and click the upper part layer thumbnail in the layers palette to create selection and use Ctrl+Shift+I to invert it, then press Delete button to clear selection.

Designing Gear Wheel in Photoshop

Remove selection with Ctrl+D and after that merge all layers in one except background layer. Move to the next step. We need to create a hole inside the gear wheel. Get out the Elliptical Marque Tool and create selection similar to mine and fill it wit color of #6d848c.

Designing Gear Wheel in Photoshop

Select Burn Tool again to make some small dodge work.

Designing Gear Wheel in Photoshop

Deselect chosen area with Select > Deselect. Ok, now time to add the verge of gear wheel. For this effect use the Line Tool (Weight: 1px) and add white lines on each verge of gear wheel.

Designing Gear Wheel in Photoshop

Merge all layers with white lines in one, then use the Eraser Tool (Opacity: 50%) and a soft round brush about 70 pixels and make little clean work.

Designing Gear Wheel in Photoshop

Move to the last one step. To finish off our tutorial we gave to add some shadow under the gear wheel. Merge all layers except background layer in one and apply Drop Shadow (link to 25) layer style for new received layer:

Designing Gear Wheel in Photoshop

Designing Gear Wheel in Photoshop

Now we need to extract shadow effect to separate layer. Use Layer > Layer Style > Create Layer for this option. Move to new layer with shadow under the current layer and apply Filter > Blur > Motion Blur for it.

Designing Gear Wheel in Photoshop

Now, we have something like this:

Designing Gear Wheel in Photoshop

After that select Smudge Tool (Brush: 70 pixels) to increase the drop shadow on the sides just a little bit.

Designing Gear Wheel in Photoshop

We are done with this tutorial. Now we have realistic view gear wheel created by ourselves.
